Duty Day Calendars
SLJ schedules attorneys to be "on duty" to represent any indigent defendants who appear before the court. We oversee the assignment of counsel in fourteen courts in Boston and Chelsea. Typically attorneys are appointed only for cases in which the defendant faces possible jail time. Representation is provided by our panel of bar advocates, staff attorneys from the Committee for Public Counsel Services, and students from Boston University, Harvard, and Suffolk law schools.
